FAA Outreach Program

DGM Training Institute recently had a special visitor. The FAA’s Bill Streb paid a special visit to our Air Freight Training class as part of the FAA’s outreach program. The FAA has incorporated outreach into our national work plan in order to be pro-active when it comes to meeting shippers, airlines, freight forwarders, and even passengers. Bill Streb says “My philosphy is that its always better to meet inspectors during a training session than during an inspection, especially if the shipper has never been involved in a hazmat inspection. I like to let people get to know me a little and give them a heads up of what to expect when I come knocking on their door. I want people to know that not all government inspectors are intimidating. I understand the anxiety that can occur because I have been there myself and I try to be as human as possible without cutting corners”.  Bill Streb background; 33 years total government service.  He put in almost 10 years in the Navy and spent the next 10 and a half years in the Coast Guard, where he retired.  He was exposed to hazardous materials during that time.  He was a first responder as well as conducting inspections and investigations on commercial vessels and mariners.  He joined the FAA right after 9/11 and has been there ever since.  He enjoys hazmat but recognizes that there is a lot of expertise in the industry and says he still have a lot to learn and he takes advantage of these presentations in order to expand his knowledge and experience.  He says for him, it’s a win/win situation.  DGM thanks Bill for coming out and sharing his knowledge with us!

2011 BreakBulk Americas Conference

This year Breakbulk Americas Transportation Conference & Exhibition was held at Ernest N Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA on Oct. 25th-27th.  Breakbulk Americas is by far the largest and most significant gathering in the U.S. for companies involved in the shipping of heavy-lift, project cargo and traditional break bulk cargoes.  It is where shippers have the opportunity to meet and develop relationships with the leading specialized carriers, forwarders, ports, terminals and packers who have the expertise and resources to handle oversized cargoes with unique handling requirements.  DGM USA was one of the exhibitors at the convention this year and found it to be very productive for their company.  DGM also held a reception party for those who attended the conference on Wednesday, Oct. 26th at the Royal Sonesta Hotel on Bourbon Street located in the famous French Quarter.  DGM says the event was very successful and wanted to thank everyone that came out and made the event a success.  They also mentioned that they will be exhibiting again at the 2012 Breakbulk Americas in Houston, TX, Oct. 9-11.
